Former Badger Jarrod Uthoff was featured today on ESPN’s Outside the Lines. The focus of the show was on the hypocrisy of the current NCAA transfer rules. NCAA president Mark Emmert, Jay Bilas, Hawaii coach Norm Chow and former FIU player Dominique Ferguson were also interviewed.
I’ve transcribed Uthoff’s comments to Outside the Lines.
“The coaches and the schools have almost all the power over the student”
“I was denied permission to contact all of the Big 10, all of the ACC and permission was not granted to Florida , it wasn’t denied but it was not granted and then Marquette and Iowa State.”
Bo Ryan declined the interview request from OTL but you can hear his interview with Mike and Mike here.
“I think it benefited me, it definitely didn’t hurt me, that’s for sure (laugh)” speaking about the how the aftermath of that interview helped him.
“It just seems like a double penalty to me. Having to sit out a year is the first penalty and then the other one is coaches having the ability to restrict schools where that player can and can’t go.”
It’s worth noting that during the b-roll footage of Uthoff working out he’s wearing what looks like standard issue shoes for UW players.
